On May 22, Giorgi Kopadze, who is the candidate for mayor nominated by Georgia’s ruling “Georgian Dream” political party, as well as Armenian and Georgian candidates for Members of Parliament visited the Armenian Youth Educational and Cultural Center in Akhaltsikhe.
At the youth center, the candidates for mayor and Member of Parliament had a meeting with the local Armenians and presented their political platforms.
Candidate for mayor nominated by the “Georgian Dream” political party Georgi Kopadze said his party has several programs for the city’s prosperity and the modernization of infrastructures. According to him, for the first time in Akhaltsikhe, Armenians are represented as majoritarian MP candidates.
In his speech, Kopadze also informed the gathered that when he attended the commemorative events organized by the local Armenians on April 24th (Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day), he had a meeting with the city’s Armenian clergyman and promised that if elected, he would make sure the road leading to the local Armenian Church would be asphalted.
On behalf of the Armenians of Akhaltsikhe and the local youth center, Eduard Ayvazyan and the Armenian MP candidates presented the following demands of the Armenians to Giorgi Kopadze:

On May 22, the Vahram Gaifetchyan Union of Creators of Akhaltskha hosted an event dedicated to the 90th birthday of world renowned singer Charles Aznavour.
During the event, President of the Union Alexander Igitkhanyan read the rich biography of Charles Aznavour and shared his memories of the day that Aznavour visited Akhaltskha and the local Armenian school.

A month ago, the Armenian Youth Educational and Cultural Center of Akhaltsikhe, the Vahram Gaifetchyan Union of Creators, Armenian School N 3 of Akhaltsikhe and the Armenian Apostolic Church of Akhaltsikhe sent a letter to Akhaltsikhe Municipality with the request to open a kindergarten at the local Armenian school due to the need for it in Akhaltskha.
The letter begins with the contributions of the Armenians to the city’s development and advancement, as well as the deepening of Armenian-Georgian cultural ties and the strengthening of friendship.

Several events dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide were held in Akhaltskha on April 24th. Starting from the early hours of April 24th, citizens of Akhaltskha gathered at St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church to participate in the Requiem Mass in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
At midday, people from the villages also gathered in the patio of the church and started the march, passing through the major streets of the city. During the march, people called for claims in Armenian and Georgian with several signs and the national flags of Armenia and Georgia.

On Apr. 25, Governor of Samtskhe-Javakheti Akaki Matchutadze, acting Gambebeli of Akhaltskha Malkhaz Zhuzhunadze, Deputy Gamgebeli Ashot Manasyan and other guests attended an event dedicated to the Georgian language at the Armenian school in Akhaltskha.
In the beginning, all the attendees respected the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 with a moment of silence.

On the eve of Apr. 24, a group of Armenian youth gathered at the central park in Akhaltskha and remembered the victims of the Armenian Genocide with pictures of the intellectuals who were killed in Constantinople on April 24, 1915.
The youth lit candles in memory of the victims of the Genocide, after which they climbed to St. Nshan Church where they also lit candles and prayed for the souls of the victims to rest in peace.

On Apr. 27, a charity event was held in the Armenian Sukhlis village of Akhaltskha region. The event began with a tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
Among the attendees were Deputy Gamgebeli of Akhaltskha Ashoht Manasyan, the head of Sukhlis village and representatives of the Armenian Youth Educational and Cultural Center of Akhaltskha.
The participants of the event performed Armenian patriotic songs, Georgian folk songs, as well as Georgian and Armenian dances and pop songs.

Since the very first day of its inception on December 5, 2007, the doors of the Youth Center of Akhalkalak have always been open for hundreds of Armenian children of Javakhk who are members of 23 cultural and educational clubs of the YCA. The Armenian, Georgian, Russian and English language courses and computer lessons are in very high demand.
For the past three years, Russia-based benefactor, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences Samvel Margaryan has been sponsoring a training program for university applicants to take exams for 9 different subjects. The goal of the training program is to help needy and smart children to train for free in order to apply to universities in Georgia and Armenia.
