THE ISSUE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE STATE LANGUAGE IS DISCUSSED IN AKHALTSIKHE
On June 17 a meeting was organized at the Union of Democrat Meskhs between the representative of Georgian "Focus” research group and the representative of government organs and non-government organizations and teachers of the Georgian Language at Armenian schools.

The aim of the teachers was to discuss the issue of integration of the ethnic minorities.

According to the Georgian participants the main problem for integration of the ethnic minorities is that  the Armenians living in Samtskhe-Javakheti Region don’t know Georgian.
The participants mentioned that the problem of the language is connected with the fact that lots of villages in Javakheti are inhabited with Armenians and that they do not communicate Georgian speakers. Also some schools don’t have qualified teachers and there is lack of Georgian TV channels. They also mentioned that the knowledge of the state language is very important for having a state job.

It was also mentioned that the knowledge of the Georgian language is improved nowadays compared with previous years; and the Armenians living in Akhaltsikhe know Georgian better than population of Akhaltsikhe and Ninotsminda.
