Ambassador Manukyan meets with Georgian Public Defender
On February 28, RA Ambassador to Georgia Hovhannes Manukyan had a meeting with newly appointed Public Defender (Ombudsman) of Georgia Ucha Nanuashvili.
During the meeting, the sides discussed various issues concerning the Georgian-Armenian community and the protection of Georgian-Armenians’ rights, the cooperation between the corresponding offices of Armenia and Georgia and other issues of mutual interest.

The interlocutors also discussed issues related to the preservation and restoration of Armenian Churches in Georgia and their return to the Armenian Apostolic Church, underlining that the issue related to the Armenian churches should be viewed as a disputed issue between Armenia and Georgia since it is actually the government’s duty to ensure the protection of Georgian-Armenian citizens’ fundamental rights to freedom of religion and faith. The newly appointed Georgian Ombudsman was optimistic toward the opportunities for a solution to the issue. The Ombudsman registered that the government is also concerned about the issue and has the sincere desire to make efforts to solve the issue soon.

Hovhannes Manukyan and Ucha Nanuashvili also attached importance to the new authorities’ need to take steps for more effective integration of Georigan-Armenians, particularly Armenians of Javakhk into Georgian society.

Ambassador Manukyan also transmitted his Armenian counterpart’s invitation to visit Armenia, which the Ombudsman accepted with
 pleasure.
